We were fortunate to experience some of the best weather of the year with a warm and sunny evening temperature of 22° for the Wednesday evening Cosford walk.
Some thirty-five walkers set off from the Crown at Newbold heading along the canal tow path towards the industrial estate. Taking a detour along the old Brownsover road before eventually reaching the Swift Valley Nature Reserve. Created in 2003, the original pastureland has been expanded into a natural wetland reserve where many species of small wildlife, waterfowl, flora and fauna, and insects now thrive.
For many it was T-Shirts and shortsWalking through the medieval ridge and furrow landscape following the flow of the old canal feeder the group crossed one field with grazing cows and young calves. On this occasion without incident, with the presence of such young calves, care was taken not to unsettle any of the meadow’s occupants.
